The Doxies Go To Panama City Beach

Shout out to Aunty Clarissa and Cuz Bruno for sharing the hat Shel's wearing!

We took a quick trip to Panama City Beach this past week. The doxies went with us, of course! Above is a shot of them on the Dog Beach. We stayed all of about 2 minutes because it was the heat of the day and we had to walk quite a ways. I was worried they'd get overheated. So we took photos and promptly got them back into the air conditioned vehicle with cold, bottled water to drink. We did try to take them during the cooler, evening hours, but the parking situation at this beach is laughable. So we had to try a different time. Oh well. We'll be going to Pass A Grille beach in October, so we'll hopefully get better shots there. Although, I hear the dog friendly part of their beaches is very small.

I took some videos of them all along the trip. From the time they first got into the vehicle, to the ride on the way home. The last shot in this video is of Sheldon showing how happy he was to be home.

Thanks for stopping by! Penny and Sheldon send you nose pokes!

Whipped Cream

Sheldon is a picky eater. He always has been. Penny, not so much. She'll eat any and everything. Even what she shouldn't. So, this morning Sheldon was being picky again. I didn't warm up their soft food before serving it to them, so he just looked at it and then at me and walked away. I put it up so Penny couldn't devour it in his absence. An hour later I set it back down only to see him refuse still. I didn't want it to get dried out and go bad, so I enticed him with a little whipped cream on top. See for yourself whether that little trick worked on him....

Notice he's actually standing up? He never does that for food! Ever!

And out come the crazy eyes!!

Sheldon: Stop messing around, Ma! Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!!!!

It disappeared pretty quickly after that.

Happy 2nd Birthday, Sheldon!

Happy birthday, my sweet boy! I love you more than you'll ever know!

This is Sheldon playing with his favorite birthday gift. It's a fluffy green spider that grunts and is bigger than he is. He fell asleep on it shortly after this photo was taken.

Pixlr-O-Meter Sheldon

I just downloaded a new program for my Mac that I've had on my iPhone4s in app form for a while and wanted to give it a try. I went to my Go-To model, Sheldon. It's actually an old cell photo that I just browsed through and clicked. It turned out ok, though. Kinda retro, which is the point of the software. It will come in handy for blogging when you don't have time to use Photoshop.

If you'd like to have it, too, here is the link: Pixlr-O-Meter

Vet Time for Sheldoggy

Today was Sheldon's annual vet visit. (Well, technically it was yesterday since it's after midnight now.) It started with a ride in the car. Knowing Sheldon like I do, I knew the anxiety would start as soon as he entered my vehicle. He has always hated car rides, as I've mentioned before. He shakes, he whimpers, and then come the farts. Yes, I said farts. Nerves = Farts for my sweet little guy. He bombed me in the car, he bombed the exam room, he bombed the front lobby, he let us know how he felt about the situation during the whole thing. I can't blame him. He doesn't understand why Mom and Dad would take him to a strange place to have them poke and prod him when he could be napping on the bed at home. (like he's doing now)

Our appointment was at 4:30.  Dr. Curtis, the nurse, and the rest of the staff were so sweet to my nervous fellow. The staff was understanding about the farts. I mentioned he was gassy and the nurse said, jokingly, "Oh, I was starting to think that was me." I appreciate a good sense of humor. She took him back to weigh him, test him, draw blood, etc... I'm glad Joel was there because I was pretty nervous about him being out of my sight. I know he's in good hands, but still...I knew he was upset about being there, so handing him off to a stranger was hard. I know they took good care of him, but my Mom nerves were worse during this point of the visit. They brought him back and we waited with him in the room while the tests were being done. This is when we let him explore the exam room.

(I had to use YouTube for the last one because Blogger was acting weird.)

Dr. Curtis won him over at the end of the exam by feeding him treats. I really like that whole office because they're so sweet to him. The building is nice, as well. They have the cutest artwork on the walls.

On to the important stuff, Sheldon got an A on his exam. He's at a "perfect" weight, so says the Doc. She said to look out for his teeth as Dachshunds are known for having periodontal disease. I may go ahead and try to start brushing his teeth. Probably not every day, but once a week to start out and get him used to it. We picked up a different flea/tick/heartworm preventative this time. I wish I could tell ya what it is, but I forget and Sheldon's sleeping in my lap at the moment. Anyway, I gave him his pill with dinner and we went for a walk. He seemed to feel fine, but did vomit a tiny bit of kibble this evening around 9. I searched through it (gross) to make sure medication didn't come up. Nope...just 3 pieces of kibble. I'm really not surprised. For some reason he seemed REALLY hungry tonight. He actually snagged some of Penny's food before I could get to him to put her food up. She was outside with Dad. Anyway, Sheldon isn't normally that hungry to want more food. He usually just takes a bit of kibble and walks away. Next time he goes in the kitchen he grabs another piece and walks away. This continues until his food is gone. He doesn't get overly excited about meal time. (Treat time is different, though) Penny is the one we have to watch with eating too much.

(Sheldon's meds, records, and treats)

I'm happy to have one of our vet visits behind us. The doctor and staff are nice, but it's still not something Sheldon looks forward to, so neither do Mom and Dad.

And here are just some random photos from the day.
...peeping out one of the doors at other dogs and humans.

...looking to Dad for encouragement.

...and boredom of Mom's cell camera is setting in for Dad.

Sthquirrel!!! (squirrel)

Every time the doxies see a squirrel we say, "Sthquirrel!!!", like the dogs in the movie, Up. Those scenes cracked me up. I could watch the movie over and over. Here, check it out...

So, you know what I was thinking in the following Sheldon video...

Bath Time

I had to hold Sheldon to keep him from jumping in the tub during Penny's bath, so I didn't get a video or picture of hers. Here's Sheldon enjoying his bath, though. (Penny hates them)

It's funny how he tries to bite the water at one point. That's what I'm giggling at in the video. Joel is the one doing the hard part....the bathing of the little wiggle worms.

I hope you all are having a nice Friday! We are! Both wiener pups are laying on the bed with me snoozing as I type this up.

While You Were Sleeping

Remember the "Nap Time" post from yesterday? Here's what happened after the photos were taken. Keep in mind Joel was still snoozing during all of this.

Nap Time at Our House

I've posted nap photos before, but here's what it looks like if both doxies and both parents try to nap at the same time.

Sheldon sleeps like a human; Up top and USUALLY with his head on a pillow. That bump under the covers is Penny. She always sleeps under something. If it's on the sofa you'll find her underneath a pillow. Sheldon is hot natured and has to move a lot to find cool spots. Penny is opposite of that. She's always trying to get warm. It's just like Mom and Dad. Mom is always cold and Dad is always hot.

Seconds after I took the photo above this is what the scene turned into...

Sheldon: "Why'd you get up, Mom? There was plenty of room"
Mom: "Exactly where is all this room, Sheldon?"

Notice Joel is still snoozing in both photos? He could sleep through anything. Even two wiener dogs trampling him....which happened.

This way! No, THIS way!!

I bought the wiener pups a double leash for when I can't find someone to go walking with us. Now I won't have to wait on someone else to go with me so I can take both of them. I videoed their first outing with it. Check it out...

And a couple of photos taken shortly after the video was shot.

Sheldon: "Com'on Penny....get off your butt and let's run!"
Penny: "No, thank you."

Sheldon: "This way, PenPen! This looks like fun!"
Penny: "No, thank you. You go ahead." *snicker*
Sheldon: "I can't! You're bigger than me!"
Penny: *snicker*

Sheldon: "Fine. You win."
Penny: "Get used to it."

Hehe! Poor Sheldon doesn't have quite as much behind behind him as Penny does. She's pretty much the boss when they're tethered. He still has a blast, though. He just loves being around her.

Speaking of Penny's behind....she got into some bird food while I was feeding and watering the birds today. Little Porky Penny was as round as she is long by the time I caught her! *screams* And she was doing so well on her diet! Hopefully it won't set us back too far.

Ice Cream You Scream

Sheldon screams for ice cream.......truck. As in the ENEMY! In Sheldon's humble opinion the ice cream man is an evil, noisy human that he'd like to see disappear. He hears the music and primes himself for a barking and growling session like you've never seen before. He thinks that since most of those rolling hunks of metal that drive down the road seem to be able to do it quietly that the ice cream truck should be able to do it, too. I mean, who does he think he is strolling neighborhoods all slow and creepy like that, making all kinds of noise, and prowling for small children's money?! The nerve!

Here's proof the ice cream truck can't be trusted...

Male Model

I tried to keep it even with the postings between Sheldon and Penny. The truth is, though, I get more shots of Sheldon. Penny goes out in the back yard to play and potty whereas Sheldon has to be leashed because he can get under the fence. He's a small fellow. So I spend a lot of time with Sheldon outside. Also, Penny is an older girl and spends less time awake and playing than Sheldon. Also, I try my best to get all the photos of Sheldon while he's in his puppy-hood just like I did when Penny was this size. So, I hope the readers of this blog don't think I'm picking favorites when Sheldon shows up more frequently than PenPen.  It may be that way for a while until he gets to be a little lazier and gets to be full grown. Make sense?

Okay, so in the earlier post I told you that Sheldon was going in tomorrow to get neutered. Which means, Mommy can't think of anything else. So, since the little man is on my mind I'm looking at photos while he's snoozing on the couch. What does that mean? New photo post!

Taken outside last week as we watched the very last launch of the Discovery Shuttle.

This one was taken week before last. It didn't turn out as nice as I was hoping, but I just really liked the photo, so I played with it in Photoshop to make it a little better. The legs belong to Joel, by the way.

Photogenic Pups

I brought out the ole Nikon D70 today to do an exercise out of Understanding Exposure for my photography group. It's the first exercise in the book. I asked Joel to stand with Sheldon and also took some of just Sheldon. All were taken with my 50mm lens @ f/5.6 in a shady area of the yard.

And here are just some shots I also took of the pups with the D70, but these are taken using Auto. I was shooting from odd angles, so I just held the camera up in the air or out in front of them and let the camera do the work.

Sheldon & Penny Share

Every once in a blue moon the Wiener Schnitzels share a toy...

Poor Sheldon

Poor little Sheldon was playing on the couch beside me earlier tonight. He started chewing a squeaky chicken toy he has that apparently freaked him out all of a sudden. So he jumped on me sort of sideways and then sideways again onto the floor. He didn't hit the ground hard. He tumbles quite a bit and jumps right back up, so no worries. He was fine and hopped right back up like, "Gimme that chicken!". But we (Sheldon's Daddy, actually) just happened to be videoing him at the time because he was being funny with the chicken by making funky noises when it squeaked at him. So here's the video of our little dare-devil...
